Teaching Assistant Professor

Trenton Johanis earned his B.Sc. in Psychology, Neuroscience & Behaviour from McMaster University in 2017, M.A. in Psychology from the University of Toronto in 2019, and is scheduled to receive his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto in Fall 2024. As a researcher, his primary interests were in Music Psychology, studying experiences and effects of flow states in piano performances, and whether external observers can use multisensory information to detect when performers are in flow. Trenton’s diverse research experience across Music Psychology has also spanned topics such as multisensory harmonic priming, perceptual congruency, and abstraction of melodic prototypes. He has also completed research projects in Developmental (Social perception in infants) and Social Psychology (Attitudes toward online dating).

With a passion for post-secondary pedagogy, Trenton holds an Advanced Certificate in Teaching from the University of Toronto and joined the University of Tennessee as a Lecturer in 2024.
