Neuroscience & Behavior

Faculty members in the Neuroscience & Behavior Group investigate proximate and ultimate mechanisms that control behavior in humans and other animals. We seek to understand the evolutionary processes underlying behavior, the adaptive functions served by behavior, how behavior develops within the context of biological systems, and the mechanisms by which the nervous system regulates behavior.

Clinical Psychology

The Clinical Psychology Program of the University of Tennessee Knoxville has been fully accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1949. Our program is designed to train highly competent clinical psychologists who will make significant contributions to the profession and society as researchers, teachers, and clinicians.

The counseling psychology program, based upon the scientist-practitioner-advocate model of training, places emphasis on the integration of science and practice.

Cognitive & Developmental Science

Faculty members of the Cognitive and Developmental Science area conduct basic research on a wide variety of aspects of cognition and development, including perception, attention, memory, oculomotor control, motor development, speech perception & language acquisition, and executive function. Several faculty members in the area are also members of the Child Development Research Group (CDRG). In addition to enhancing our current knowledge of cognitive processes, another goal of our program is to encourage cross-fertilization of ideas, theories, and methodologies for faculty and graduate students alike.

Faculty members of the social psychology area manage ongoing research programs geared toward improving our understanding of a wide range of psychological issues, from basic processes that govern how we perceive, make sense of, and relate to the world to pressing social problems.
