UT Psychology Mentoring Statement
The faculty of the Department of Psychology believe strongly in an inclusive and individualized approach to mentoring. Our faculty value diversity and are committed to creating a supportive environment for all. Scholarship and professional development of students are cultivated through close contact with faculty mentors, ongoing feedback, clear expectations, and collaborative projects. We provide a rigorous and individualized learning environment wherein our students acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to develop their interests and professional identities.
GRADUATE PROGRAMS
M.A. Program – Experimental Psychology
The University of Tennessee only offers the M.A. Program in Experimental Psychology. The program incorporates the following areas of research: Neuroscience & Behavior, Cognitive & Developmental Science, and Social Psychology.
Ph.D. Program – Clinical Psychology
The Clinical Psychology Program of the University of Tennessee Knoxville has been fully accredited by the American Psychological Association since 1949. Our program is designed to train highly competent clinical psychologists who will make significant contributions to the profession and society as researchers, teachers, and clinicians.
Ph.D. Program – Counseling Psychology
The Counseling Psychology Program at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville (UT), is proud to be the first doctoral program to be accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) under a scientist-practitioner-advocate training model. In this model, we continue to place a very high value on the integration of science and practice, but add the importance of moving beyond the therapy room to also address systemic injustices that are often a source of our clients’ presenting concerns.
Ph.D. Program – Experimental Psychology
The Ph.D. Program in Experimental Psychology is designed to allow students to select from a variety of specializations oriented toward careers in research, teaching, and application of psychology in academic, institutional, or industrial settings. The program is flexible, individualized, and emphasizes a professional apprenticeship model of training.
