RESEARCH

COGNITIVE & DEVELOPMENTAL SCIENCE

Faculty members of the Cognitive and Developmental Science area conduct basic research on a wide variety of aspects of cognition and development, including perception, attention, memory, oculomotor control, motor development, speech perception & language acquisition, and executive function. Several faculty members in the area are also members of the Child Development Research Group (CDRG). In addition to enhancing our current knowledge of cognitive processes, another goal of our program is to encourage cross-fertilization of ideas, theories, and methodologies for faculty and graduate students alike.

Our Cognitive and Developmental Science labs utilize a variety of methodologies, including behavioral measures, computational modeling, machine learning, EEG, eye-tracking, fNIRS, fMRI, kinematics, and psychophysics. We cover a broad range of theoretical approaches (dynamic/developmental systems, statistical learning, information processing, cognitive neuroscience) while promoting a collaborative and interdisciplinary study of cognition and development at multiple levels of analysis. We also hold a weekly brown bag series during the academic year as a research forum for students and faculty with cognitive, developmental, and neuroscience and behavior research interests.

To learn more about who we are and what we do, we encourage you to visit the web pages of our core faculty and of their respective laboratories: Attention Brain and Cognition Lab (PI: Aaron Buss), Infant Perception-Action Laboratory (PI: Daniela Corbetta), Infant Language and Perceptual Learning Lab (PI: Jessica Hay), Developmental Cognitive Neuroscience Lab (PI: Greg Reynolds), Infant Visual Cognition Lab (PI: Shannon Ross-Sheehy), Attention Memory and Perception Lab (PI: David Sutterer) and Visual Perception and Cognition Lab (PI: Caglar Tas).
